Are you interested in applying for the Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) Quality Badge? Would you like some help getting started with your Self Evaluation Form (SEF)? These resources will help you to understand the Quality Indicators that make up the SEF and how they relate to practice.

These resources were produced by the Heritage Sector Partnership, with thanks to funding from the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom, to help heritage organisations make the most of Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC).

The Quality Badge Self Evaluation Form might contain some unfamiliar or ambiguous terms. Download our Glossary of Terms, which explains those terms and should help you to become more comfortable with the Quality Indicators. A Quality Badge FAQ’s resource was also produced to help answer some practical queries regarding the badge scheme.

We hope that these case studies will:
• Give you a better understanding of how the Quality Indicators relate to practice.
• Help you to identify areas in which learning services at your organisation can be developed.

How to use the following case studies:

First, download the LOtC Quality Badge Indicators (the Quality Indicators are the same as the questions that make up the Quality Badge Self Evaluation Form).

Second, download a relevant case study:
Historic House
Museum
Botanic Garden
Local Studies Library
Archive

Third, read the case study and cross reference it with the Quality Indicators to get an idea of what a good quality education practice looks like in the context of the Quality Badge.

Do you need to develop your learning offer before applying? Use our short, practical guides to help you do it.
