Ancient House Museum
Ancient House Museum of Theford Life is a small museum in Norfolk housed in a timber-framed building dating from about 1490.. Our collections relate to the local history including Neolithic flint mining which has led to a project working in partnership with a museum in Nagawa, Japan. This project has included two teenage exchange programmes and the world’s first twinning of archaeological sites. Our museum was donated to the town by Prince Frederick Duleep Singh, second son of the last Maharajah of Punjab so we have links with the Sikh Community and Gurdwara Summer Schools.

Learning at Ancient House Museum
Our learning programme spans all ages from 3-week olds attending our Mini Museum Club to school groups and our after-school clubs and adult talks, tours and traditional craft groups. We have been able to working with small number of people over several years to good effect. For example, our regular Knit and Knatter group have been meeting twice a month for 10 years forming new friendships and combating loneliness. Some members of our Teenage History Club have been working with the museum for over 11 years starting in our Junior History Club when they were 8. Our main challenges at the moment at working out who to maintain these long term relationships remotely and ensure we can still tackle challenging projects while working from home.
