Expressive Arts and Heritage Learning

In this session, you will gain a deeper understanding of how to facilitate the Expressive Arts Area of Learning and Experience, using collections, objects and local heritage as a starting point. You will gain confidence of learning within the new curriculum framework for Expressive Arts that will help you to support teachers, and inspire pupils to achieve great results in your heritage venue.
You will:
1. Gain an understanding of the What Matters Statements and the Four Purposes of the Welsh National Curriculum pedagogy.
2. Hear about successful learning projects that have taken place with museums, galleries and other cultural organisations.
3. Explore frameworks and strategies that support teachers and pupils within the curriculum.
4. Gain knowledge on creative learning and embedding digital competency.
5. Be provided with resources that can be used or adapted for use in museums and other cultural organisations.
Ruth Lloyd is an arts, culture and learning consultant based in Brecon, mid Wales. Ruth has worked in the arts and culture sector for over twenty five years, leading strategic and audience development programmes in a range of settings. She worked closely with the Arts Council of Wales and Welsh Government on the delivery of their Creative Learning Through the Arts national plan, managing the Arts and Education Network for South-East Wales and leading the set-up of the National Arts and Education Network for Wales.
Prior to relocating in Wales in 2014, Ruth worked for thirteen years at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London during which time she established and ran their flagship Museum Residency Programme, which included a participatory creative learning and public art elements.
