Historical Collections for Literacy Outcomes

The Royal Armouries Museum, Leeds and The British Library will come together to explore different ways of using historical collections to achieve literacy outcomes for school groups across KS2-4.
Looking at case studies, we will discuss the good, the bad and the surprising. Throughout the session, we will explore:
– How various types of historical artefacts have been used for literacy outcomes
– Different workshop approaches and how this variation can deepen attainment and engagement for pupils
– How to support teachers with such engagement
– Evaluation options
Case studies will include the Mightier than the Sword KS2 Oracy Project, and the Shakespeare on Stage and Page: Romeo and Juliet Take Over Day for year 9 students. Other case studies are likely to be discussed.
You will be encouraged to share your experiences and ask questions of the presenters and other participants.
