How to Queer a Painting

8 February 2022 @ 10:00 - 11:30

£7.50

What makes an artwork queer, and how do you begin exploring art from a queer perspective? Researching LGBTQ+ experiences is notoriously challenging. Our stories are so often left out of the narrative of human history. Still whilst there is a lot of talk of the importance of inclusion, we often forget the most important part… How do you do it?!

This session will move beyond theoretical ideas and present a hands-on approach to exploring queer themes and stories in your collections.

Sacha Coward is a queer historian and tour guide who has worked in museums across the UK for over 10 years. In this session he will explore the process of finding queer narratives, and share practical skills and techniques he has picked up in his time working in the field.

About the facilitator

Sacha Coward is a freelance museum worker, queer historian and tour guide with 10+ years experience researching and sharing the stories of LGBTQ+ people from heritage sites and collections around the world.
