The Northeast has the second highest rate of child poverty in the UK with 37% of children living in poverty and all 12 North East Councils are included in the 20 UK local authority areas with the highest increase in child poverty between 2014/15-2019/20.

The stark inequalities that are faced by those living in poverty demonstrates the need to ensure that the cultural sector is accessible and affordable to those suffering these effects to ensure children and families do not miss the many benefits of visiting and engaging with cultural organisations.

This event planned in collaboration with GEM Northeast and Children Northeast hopes to highlight to those working in Cultural organisations across the region the importance of exploring how Poverty Proofing © can firstly highlight gaps in services for poorer families and the steps that can be taken to support families living in poverty.
