Public Humanities Short Course

This two day short course (11th-12th July) will explore how public engagement can be strategically embedded in humanities research careers. The course will cover key areas such as working with the media, navigating ‘Impact’ and the REF, and looking at how engagement can be done through research. Participants will attend plenaries and talks by leading scholars as well as workshops led by the SAS Public Engagement team who run the Being Human festival. This course is suitable for all those with a humanities focused research career, especially ECRS.

The course offers a two day masterclass to people looking to strengthen their skills in public engagement and research communication and integrate them into research careers in the humanities.

The course covers the following key areas:

Engagement through research – embedding engagement within the research process
REF 2021 – exploring what makes a good impact case study
Funding – knowing the landscape and developing ‘pathways to impact’
Working with the media – research communication via print, TV and Radio
