The Future of Apprenticeships: Closing the Skills Gap and Empowering Young People to Fulfill their Potential

This symposiumfrom the Public Policy Exchange website offers a range of stakeholders including local authorities, training providers, employers and further education providers with a unique opportunity to reflect on major reforms to apprenticeships in England and co-develop strategies to provide a diverse range of high-quality training opportunities. Stakeholders will also explore methods to raise the status of apprenticeships and to ensure opportunities are accessible for individuals regardless of their race, ethnicity, age or career level.

Delegates Will:

  • Examine the Government’s apprenticeship reforms and explore the future of apprenticeships in delivering a high-skilled labour market
  • Discuss how to deliver high-quality training and cultivate learners’ skills and prospects for long term employment
  • Explore how to raise the status of apprenticeships and present training opportunities as attractive alternatives to university study
  • Understand how apprenticeships can support businesses and close existing skill gaps
  • Co-develop strategies to secure equality and diversity in apprenticeships
  • Assess what constitutes a high quality apprenticeship and share best practices for training delivery across organisations
  • Consider existing gaps in opportunities across sectors and develop methods of promoting apprenticeships within a range of professions
  • Generate methods of promoting collaboration between employers and trainers to facilitate successful programme
