20 January 2022 @ 14:00 - 18:00

Free

A free to attend multi-disciplinary conference focusing on sharing heritage to promote acceptance across cultures.
Join with artists, museums, activists, politicians and writers to explore themes of acceptance, migration and freedom, with a particular emphasis on the perspective of the Wampanoag Nation who Mayflower pilgrims first encountered in America in 1620. Keynote speakers will be Paula Peters (activist and spokesperson representing the Wampanoag Nation and founder of creative agency Smoke Sygnals) and Lord John Mann (independent UK government advisor on anti-Semitism). There will also be a choice of breakout sessions led by experts including Migration Museum UK and Pilgrim Monument and Museum, Boston MA.

The conference is part of the ACE funded Wampanoag Perspective project which aims to share a more holistic version of Mayflower history in collaboration with the Wampanoag Nation. The project saw visitors from the Wampanoag Nation come to Nottinghamshire in the 400th anniversary of the ‘first Thanksgiving’ and built a wetu (traditional home) in the grounds of Bassetlaw Museum.
