GEM is looking for new Trustees to join the Board. We are looking for four enthusiastic and committed individuals who are willing to offer their skills and time to support GEM at this exciting time.
As an Arts Council Investment Principles Support Organisation, GEM is delivering an extensive programme focused on supporting and empowering the museum learning sector in the UK and beyond.
We are particularly interested in Trustees with expertise in the following areas:
- Digital
- Commercial
- Membership
- Fundraising
- Museum learning practice
We actively encourage applications from all different backgrounds and identities. We are always eager to further diversify our Board.
GEM is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity currently run by a Board of nine Trustees. Trustees are elected by members. A Trustee may serve for up to six years.
Trustees’ role
The Trustees have control of the company and the charity and must sign a declaration of willingness to act once elected. Trustees must comply with the requirements of the Companies Act 1985 and of the Charities Act 1993. They are expected to:
- take policy and strategic decisions;
- devise and implement the forward plan;
- contribute to the work of GEM through Task and Finish Groups;
- ensure effective management of GEM’s finances and assets.
Trustees are expected to be involved in GEM business on a regular basis, which includes attending quarterly Board meetings and the Annual General Meeting and being actively involved in at least one Task and Finish Group to support the strategic development of GEM. Trustees also represent GEM at its own and other events. Trustees may claim reasonable out-of-pocket expenses.
Deadline for nominations is Wednesday, 31 July 2024. Election process
Applications for new Trustees roles will be reviewed by the GEM Board and it is envisioned that they will take up their new role in October. New Trustees will be announced at or before the AGM on 12 September 24.
