The Group for Education in Museums (GEM) has secured a grant from the Welsh Government Culture Division for 2025-6 to undertake work supporting museums to create, adapt and improve their learning services in line with the principles and educational practice outlined in the Curriculum for Wales (CfW).

GEM are seeking to appoint a heritage learning freelancer (or company) to help deliver one aspect of this work:

To research, develop, pilot and deliver a “how to use your local museum” educational session for schools & colleges

· Freelancer will research and design a generic template session (or module) for local museums to better engage with their school, FE and HE audiences.

· The aim is to help museums to present informative and engaging CfW based workshops for children, students and education providers on the benefits of using their local museum.

· The session will be specifically designed for non-learning specialists in smaller local museums to feel confident in developing partnerships with their local education providers, at all ages.

· The session will need to be adaptable to suit the range of local museums throughout Wales.

· The session will need to be adaptable for / relevant to the CfW and FE / HE students.

· The session will expand on, and extend the reach of the GEM Cymru CfW INSeT model already developed in 2023.

· Freelancer will also produce an explanatory, related toolkit for staff in museums in Wales to use alongside the session.

· Freelancer will lead the online professional development on the use and delivery of the toolkit & template session through a GEM Cymru ½ day Zoom training event.

The freelancer should ideally be based in Wales or possess a current and practical understanding of contemporary issues relating to museum learning and education in Wales, including the Curriculum for Wales.

The session needs to be ready in early 2026 with a launch event in February / March 2026.
