The Scottish Maritime Museum seeks applicants for the role of Learning and Access Officer, the predominant location of the post will be Irvine but there will also be a requirement to work at the Museum’s Denny Ship Model Experiment Tank in Dumbarton.

This role involves developing and delivering the Museum’s educational learning and access programme, promoting learning to audiences ranging from early years to lifelong learners, contributing to the Museum’s events programme, and delivering talks and demonstrations to visiting groups.

Key Activities:

Manage budgets allocated by external funders and complete regular reporting.

Develop and deliver the learning and events programme in conjunction with other members of the management team, identifying creative ways to ensure the objectives of the Museum match the needs of our visitors across a range of subject areas.

Liaise with schools with bookings, facilitating access to the Museum’s collections and developing curriculum resources.

Keep up to date with curriculum developments, ensuring that the Museum’s education programmes are relevant to the national curriculum. Production of booklets, guides and information packs promoting our resources for schools, colleges and identified Museum users.

Ensure compliance with the Museum’s systems and procedures relating to safeguarding, employment, care of collection and the security of the Museum’s collections. The post holder will also manage Health and Safety matters related to learning work spaces.

Undertake research and evaluation and deliver reports of findings and outcomes.

Supervise staff and volunteers and assist in their training and full induction.

Assist in marketing the Learning and Access programme including design and delivery within agreed budgets.

Assist in the smooth operation and staffing of the Museum, provide emergency cover for staff at other sites and to undertake any reasonable request from your manager or another member of the management team and to undertake additional training as required.
