Dorset County Museum (DCM) is one of the leading independent, charitable, heritage organisations in the South West of England. Its diverse collections contains over four million objects, including internationally significant geology, archaeology and literary artefacts, and is visited by over 50,000 visitors a year.

The Museum is at an exciting and pivotal moment in its 170 year history. Having secured a Stage Two pass for a major grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund in October 2017, it is a currently delivering a £14.9 million capital expansion project to construct the innovative, visitor-focused ‘Tomorrow’s Museum for Dorset’. This will completely overhaul the Museum – its galleries, exhibitions, storage facilities, working spaces and retail offer – to produce an organisation able to better conserve and interpret Dorset’s internationally significant heritage and ready to meet the expectations of modern visitors.

The ambitious and exciting plans for developing our learning, education and community programme resulting from this project, means that we are currently looking for new people to join our growing learning team. Highly motivated, innovative and creative, the post holder will work with our Collections and Public Engagement team to establish a new position that delivers a wide range of learning, engagement and outreach activity for schools, life-long learners, non-traditional audiences and community groups. The role will also contribute to exhibition design and content development by developing strong community partnerships and the creation and delivery of audience focused programming. The role will support DCM to transform its services as part of the mission to be the leading heritage, arts and cultural organisation in Dorset.

Winners of the Outstanding Contribution to Tourism award at the 2018 Dorset Tourism Awards, and finalists in the Employer of the Year category at the 2019 South West Business and Community Awards, the remuneration package also includes a range of additional benefits in association with our partners at Perkbox.

The closing date for applications is: 12noon, Monday 25th February.
Interviews are likely to take place on 6th and 7th March 2019 .
