GEM’s training programme

GEM are invested in continuing professional development of the heritage learning workforce.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) benefits both the individual and the employer, and of course it benefits our sector too.

Whether you’re looking to improve your abilities, develop your contacts and networks, update your skills or keep up to date with the sector’s latest developments and best practice, then you are in the right place.

GEM is working towards professionalising the heritage learning workforce. The learning workforce is crucial in ensuring that museums are engaged with their communities.

GEM’s threefold approach is to:

  • Embed its new competency framework for the heritage learning workforce in all its professional development work.
  • Offer training at foundation, intermediate and advanced/leadership levels that supports the development of the core competencies outlined in the framework.
  • Use its new professional membership scheme to formally recognise the professional knowledge, skills and expertise of GEM members, and provide a focus and incentive for members’ CPD.
