Using GEM’s Competency Framework: A Guide for Individuals

23 March 2022 @ 19:30 - 21:00

Free – £5.00

GEM’s Competency Framework is a tool for the whole sector, that can be used to assess your professional skills, and track progress as you complete CPD activities.

The Core Competencies set out the different behaviours, attributes, skills and knowledge that are considered necessary to perform effectively in museum and heritage learning roles. The latest update to the Competency Framework has seen the addition of a Digital Skills category, and a new, interactive self-assessment tool for sector colleagues to plan and track their professional development activities.

Tom Briggs, who led the latest revision of the Core Competencies, will give a brief overview of these updates and changes, before delving into the self-assessment spreadsheets. Participants will learn how to download and use the Competency Framework self-assessment to plan and track their professional development, and have a go at beginning their own skills assessment.

This session is perfect for individuals who wish to develop their museum learning skills, but don’t know where to start identifying key areas to target. Participants will come away with a better understanding of why the Competency Framework exists, and how they can use it to benefit their career development.

If you can’t make this evening session, please consider attending our morning workshop instead on Thursday 17 March 2022, at 10:00am. The two sessions will be identical, in order to accommodate participant working arrangements.

If you’d like to know more about how you can use the Competency Framework as a line manager, or for your organisation, please also consider joining our Guide for Organisations and Line Managers on Thursday 31 March 2022, at 10:30am.
