Multi-sensory learning in museums

Join the British Museum Schools team and SEND experts to explore how to develop and deliver multi-sensory activities which support and enrich learning for students with additional needs in museums, heritage sites, art galleries and cultural organisations.

Build subject knowledge and share best practice through talks, workshops and panel discussions. There will be an emphasis on practical approaches with time to reflect and ask questions throughout the day.

Course themes include:

Introducing students to a museum/heritage environment through multi-sensory activities.
Using sensory storytelling to explore Black British history.
Taking a deep dive into history using multi-sensory resources.
Encouraging creativity and artistic to responses to museum objects.
Bringing objects in glass cases to life.
Reviewing the use of text in SEND resources.
Ensuring engagement and enjoyment for students with additional physical and learning needs.
Understanding and supporting neurodiverse learners.
The talks and workshops are aimed at professionals working across the cultural sector and teachers who are interested in developing their use of local heritage/arts organisations to engage 5–18-year-old students in cultural learning.

Suitable for teachers and cultural/heritage professionals. Trainee teachers welcome.
