Who are the stakeholders when it comes to planning a co-participated project? 

What are the reasons for starting a participatory project? The working group established by AIEM | GEM Italy | ICOM Italia | NEMO invited two Italian professionals working in the UK to understand specificities, and theoretical and practical developments of an articulated process involving multiple stakeholders which redefines the learning relationship.

A series of 4 appointments dedicated to analysing theory and practice of participatory learning projects.

2 appointments dedicated to the process of participatory learning projects with communities as active citizens.

2 appointments dedicated to the process of learning through participatory knowledge practices.

Each session will discuss both theoretical and practical approaches, looking at recent best practices and with detailed analysis of a selection of participatory projects.

Cesare Cuzzola, researcher in Museums Studies, University of Leicester

Domenico Sergi completed his degree in Communication Science from La Sapienza Università di Roma (2004), his MA in Anthropology from SOAS, UCL (2008), and his PhD from the University of East Anglia (2016). He is currently Senior Curator at the Museum of London, in charge of the project of participatory curatorship “Curating London”. His career includes being a lecturer at UCL and a curator in the Anthropology Department of the Horniman Museum and Gardens, working on the development of the World Gallery. He recently published his book Museums, Refugees and Communities  (Routledge 2021).

Cesare Cuzzola is an associated researcher at the Research Centre for Museums and Galleries (RCMG). He is currently completing his PhD at the School of Museum Studies of the University of Leicester. His research focuses on the role museum collections play in ‘socially engaged practice’, cultural practices which are particularly focused on their social impact. His dissertation describes the importance of material culture in museums dealing with contemporary social issues.
