SEND Network Conference 2018

15 September 2018 @ 10:00 - 16:30

£20

Communicate, create, and share: imaginative approaches to interpreting museums, galleries, and heritage sites for visitors with special educational needs and disabilities.

This conference explores creative approaches to interpreting museums, galleries, and heritage sites for visitors with special educational needs and disabilities.

The keynote speech is given by Gina Davies, founder of the Gina Davies Autism Centre and pioneer of the Attention Autism programme. Gina is an accomplished conference speaker and highly acclaimed practitioner in autism, turning her skill as a speech and language therapist and passion for communication into practical interventions for both parents and professionals.

Throughout the day, delegates have the opportunity to hear case studies from a range of institutions and experts, and to participate in two practical and interactive workshops. Each workshop has a different creative focus and considers different approaches, techniques, and resources that can be used in their own settings.

•  Tate – Learn more about non-verbal and theatre-based techniques for engaging those with additional needs.

•  Sensory spectacle – Explore the world the way people with sensory processing disorders do and investigate how this impacts their experience of galleries and museums.

•  Q Club at QUAD – Investigate animation as a tool for engaging and raising the esteem and resilience of children with additional needs.

•  Studio Wayne McGregor – Explore how dance and movement can engage participants with profound and complex needs.
This conference is generously supported by The Lord Leonard and Lady Estelle Wolfson Foundation
