21 November 2022 @ 16:00 - 17:00

How can the education and cultural sectors support young people to authentically and impactfully take a lead in the arts?

What will the event involve?

In this webinar, together with arts organisations and young people, we will explore:

– Different contexts and approaches to young people taking the lead – as artists, change makers and arts professionals
– What are the benefits of this for young people and the wider community?
– What challenges might be encountered?
– How can Arts Award provide a flexible framework to guide and accredit young people’s leadership in the arts?

Guest speakers:

Tiger Monkey, the Arts Award, and youth arts leaders; hear from Emma Ghafur, Director and Tiger Monkey young leaders who will be sharing their approach to and experience of using the Arts Award as a framework to develop their skills and experience as arts professionals.

Anthony Anaxagoru, colonial legacies; hear from Anthony and the Young Poets Collective who responded to the statue of Robert Geffrye at the Museum of the Home, Hackney, and the legacies of colonialism related to this. Exploring themes of power and identity, through a personal lens, the poems produced by the young people can be found in their publication Lessons in Gravity.

Dulwich Picture Gallery, youth voice and changing narratives; hear from Kelly Robinson, Head of Learning and Participation, the youth team, and youth volunteers about how they have embedded young people’s voice into the heart of the organization by shaping and changing exhibition narratives and interpretation.
