Bgen Annual Conference: Botanic Garden Education, Past, Present & Future

11 January 2023 - 12 January 2023

A challenge to reimagine botanical garden education reflecting on the past, present and future.

This year’s conference aims to launch a new era in botanic garden education. By reflecting on lessons learned from the past – from colonisation to Covid adaptations – let’s start planning for a positive future where we play an integral part in changing behaviour and addressing the twin emergencies of biodiversity loss and the climate emergency.

We are extremely lucky to be generously hosted this year by RHS Garden Wisley. It will provide the most perfect backdrop to our Conference Theme of Past, Present & Future!

Our two-day programme features keynote talks from Julia Willison, Head of Learning and Participation at Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, Professor Louise Archer, Karl Mannheim Chair of Sociology of Education at UCL and Dr Jack Hannam, President of the British Society of Soil Science. We also have a packed schedule of RHS Wisley tours, Workshops from Botanical Garden Educators across the UK, and excellent opportunities for networking and discussion sessions.
