Building an inclusive learning programme in museums

Explore how to create, build and advocate for an inclusive learning experience for students with additional needs in museums, heritage sites, art galleries and cultural organisations.
Join the Museum’s schools team and experts to build subject knowledge and share best practice through talks, workshops and panel discussions. There will be an emphasis on practical approaches with time to reflect and ask questions throughout the day.

The event will include talks by:

Emily Elsworth (Autism and Me)

The event will include workshops on the themes of:
Introducing students to a museum/heritage environment through multi-sensory activities.
Using creative responses to explore Black British history.
Taking a deep dive into a historical period using multi-sensory resources.
Bringing objects in glass cases to life.
Ensuring engagement and enjoyment for students with additional physical and learning needs.
Understanding and supporting learners with autism.
The talks and workshops are aimed at professionals working across the cultural sector and teachers who are interested in developing their use of local heritage/arts organisations to engage students in cultural learning.

Suitable for teachers and cultural/heritage professionals. Trainee teachers welcome.
