Engaging families with under 5s in museums

6 December 2023 @ 10:00 - 12:30

£5.40 – £36.56

Do you want to better understand your youngest visitors and their needs? Are you considering offering dedicated sessions for under 5s or wanting to enrich your existing early years workshops?

About this training

This training webinar will be led by Jo Graham, an experienced consultant passionate about engaging under 5s in museums, especially in family groups. She has helped all kinds of museums, galleries and discovery centres to create exhibitions, programmes and interpretative gallery activities and resources for early years audiences. Jo will share her insights into what makes this audience ‘tick’ and top tips for creating engaging experiences for families with young children.

She will be joined by Georgina Scott from the Great North Museum: Hancock in Newcastle upon Tyne. Georgina will share her first-hand experience of building a range of highly-popular provision for under 5s and their families.

The session will help delegates to:

– deepen their understanding of who under 5s are, from babies to pre-schoolers
– gain insight into how young children learn
– think about how that impacts on the experiences we provide in our own organisations
– identify age-relevant content
– plan sessions that capitalise on how young children learn best.

This training event will be delivered virtually on Zoom over one half-day session (two hours and 30 minutes with a short break).
