Exploring Creative Literacy

5 February 2020 @ 11:00 - 15:00

Free

Engage South West’s Representatives are hosting a one day meet up in Bristol exploring creative engagement in teaching literacy in schools. This event is free for everyone interested in creative education — teachers, artists, freelance producers, researchers.

How can we give every child the chance to have high-quality learning and embed creativity in the process? How can we use creative approaches to teaching literacy that support schools to thrive and engage those hardest to reach in creative ways? Can we embed creativity in the curriculum?

Engage South West’s Representatives are hosting a one day meet up in Bristol exploring creative engagement in teaching literacy in schools.

Ronda Gowland-Pryde and Caleb Parkin will discuss Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery‘s 2018 MaxLiteracy Award, which saw a writer-in-residence at Compass Point School in Bristol funded by the Max Reinhardt Charitable Trust. Kim Wide, Director of Take A Part CIC discusses how High View School in Plymouth went from special measures for English to UK Literacy School of the Year in 2014 by applying creativity to solve the need.

There will be an opportunity to find out more from Bristol City Council’s Engagement Team about the work they are platforming for Young People in the city and a chance to network and see the exhibitions at Bristol Museum and Gallery.

Please note, this is a free event but booking is required.
