GEM North East: Sensory Learning

28 March @ 14:30 - 16:00

£5

Cat and Michelle from Beamish Museum and Leslie from South Shields Museum & Art gallery will be joining us to share some of Sensory based projects and activities that take place in their venues in this practical session. See examples of practice, take part and think about how you can use these ideas and skills in your own work.

Members of Beamish Museum’s Health & Wellbeing Team will be running a practical session, sharing the development of their immersive and multi-sensory activities for people living with dementia. The team will also share how these sessions are now adapted for activities with adults living with a wide range of cognitive and physical impairments.

Leslie from South Shields Museum and Art Gallery will be talking about a partnership project that she ran with the National Gallery which created online digital storytelling sessions linked to their collections. Find out also how Leslie has developed this further to develop in person sensory sessions at both South Shields Museum and Arbeia Roman Fort. Attendees will then have an opportunity to work with Foley Art to create their own sensory stories.

These examples focus on particular types of groups, but the rationale behind the planning and delivery can be adapted into a diverse range of settings.

This session is ideal for anyone working in an engagement role, from young children through to adult learners.
