Ever wondered about using playful creative materials on the gallery, but been uncertain where to start? Perhaps you’ve tried some creative activities out on the floor, but met resistance? Or maybe you just want to know a little bit more about play, using ‘loose parts’, and how it can benefit family visitors. If you are curious about any of these topics, this training could be for you.

Loose parts refers to using items such as everyday objects to encourage open ended play.

The webinar will help delegates to:

– gain an understanding of loose parts, how children play with ‘stuff’, and the benefits this brings for our wellbeing
– hear inspiring ideas from the play sessions at Coventry Transport Museum
– find out how families explore your collections through loose parts play and how to capture that data to make the case for play in your organisation
– learn top tips from the trainers around play and the role of the staff when introducing play to museums.

About the trainers

This training webinar will be led by Play Trainer and Consultant Charlotte Derry, who has worked with organisations including Happy Museum, National Trust, Monmouthshire Museums and Play Wales.

Charlotte was also a mentor on our Play in a Socially Distanced World project in 2020, which supported 11 museums to develop playful ways for families to interact with their collections.

Charlotte will be joined by Anja Keitel-Campsall from Coventry Transport Museum, which has successfully introduced loose parts play sessions to their museum galleries and led staff training for the organisation, supporting gallery teams to work more playfully.

This training event will be delivered virtually on Zoom over one half-day session (two and a half hours with a short break).
