The Future is Now: Museum Youth Summit – Sector Sharing Event

13 March @ 10:00 - 11:30

Free

The Kids in Museums Youth Panel shares what they think you should know about young people in museums.

Museums want to know how they can attract more young people in a world where there is increasing competition for their attention. Often, they don’t know where to begin. Now young people have spoken, and this event is an opportunity for the museum sector to listen.

After their The Future is Now: Museum Youth Summit in October 2023, the Kids in Museums Youth Panel want to share their thoughts and findings about what young people want from museums, on behalf of young people who attended the event and many more who contributed to our online survey. These findings are relevant to all museums, galleries and heritage sites.

Young people are calling on museums to remove barriers to access, represent a wider range of people and perspectives, and create good early career jobs.

We hope to show museums the importance of embedding young people and youth-focused practices at the centre of their organisation. Most importantly, this session provides an opportunity to meet young and aspiring museum professionals and hear their perspectives on navigating careers in heritage and being museum visitors through a short discussion forum.

This session will help delegates to:
– understand the importance of youth-centred approaches
– gain an insight into the perspectives of young people
– understand and use the findings from The Future is Now: Museum Youth Summit in their own practice
– advocate for change within their own workplaces.

This free event has been programmed by the Kids in Museums Youth Panel and will be delivered virtually on Zoom over one and a half hours.
