About
My name is Stuart Perry and I have over 30 years experience working in graphic design. Since 2003 I have worked freelance as Chemical Design, predominately within the heritage industry. Clients have included the National Trust, English Heritage and Cumbria Wildlife Trust. With a wide range of skills and experience, I am able to offer the service of a big agency with a personal approach. My aim is to offer bespoke, elegant design solutions for clients of any size and budget.

Design for print
Design for print can be as simple as a flyer or as complicated as a brochure or guide book. Clean attractive design can help to get your message across quickly or represent large amounts of information in a way that is easily accessible by the end user. I have built up good relationships with specialist printers and finishers allowing me to supply not only print ready artwork but also fully finished print. Maps and orientation
From walks covering large out door areas, to paths in the grounds of a country house or the floor plan of a building, it’s always good to know where you are going. I can produce tailored orientation material for your guide books, panels and websites. This usually starts with a Google Earth search, OS maps or just a conversation and a sketch on a piece of A4. These maps can be produced in a variety of styles using both traditional and digital media. Layered information and bespoke icons mean that they are fully editable and in line with branding requirements. Some examples of my maps can be found in my online portfolio.
Interpretation and information
Chemical Design has a great deal of experience in producing interpretation and signage for the heritage industry. Whether it’s exhibition panels, pop up banners, outside information panels or signage. Working with specialist printers, sign manufacturers and point of sale suppliers I can help you get your message across. Examples of my interpretation designs can be found in my online portfolio.
Illustration
Illustration was where it all started for me in design, with water colour portraits and images for publications. Not just limited to paint I can produce bespoke illustrations using a wide variety of other media including pen and ink, acrylics and pencil. Using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator I am also able to create bespoke diagrams and images digitally. Chemical Design offers a ‘one-stop-shop’ for your illustrations, graphics and designs, producing images that fit seamlessly into your publications and interpretation material. Photo retouching
I have been using Adobe Photoshop since version 1.0 and it still amazes me today. Over the past 30 years I have taken things out, put things in, made things perfect, cut things out, combined things together and created images for websites and for the sides of buildings. Whether its a clean cut out or an enhanced image, I approach my Photoshop work with the eye of an artist, to balance light and shade, composition and form. I believe the best photo-retouching is the stuff you don’t see. My online portfolio has some examples of my work with Photoshop.
