GEM Case Studies: Anti-racist Journeys in Museums (Special Edition)

For this special series GEM is seeking case studies that showcase anti-racist work in museums. As museums move towards diversifying their collections and ways of working, these case studies offer opportunities to learn from those who are already on this journey. By sharing experiences, struggles, and successes, they provide insights and practical strategies, and inspire confidence in museum staff as they work towards greater inclusivity and equity at their sites.

This series is not about capturing finished projects, though those are welcome, it’s about the entire journey: anti-racism is an ongoing process of learning and is a collective effort. The focus of a GEM Case Study is not on “this is what I did” but rather “on reflection this is what I would have done”. The more you analyse what you have done, the more useful your case study is likely to be to others.

This series is supported by the Welsh Government as part of its Anti-Racist Wales Action Plan, but impactful anti-racist work is happening across the UK, and so these case studies are open to all museums. This extends the reach of anti-racist work, empowering museums everywhere to create more inclusive and equitable spaces.

This edition of Case Studies will be bilingual. You are welcome to submit your Case Study either in English or in Welsh.

Please send your  case studies suggestion to [email protected] using one of the templates below by 30 September 2024.
